Using DARC to demonstrate phototoxicity

Abstract

Deliver new diagnostic procedures ever more accurate data on disease development and pathophysiological dysfunctions, which up to reaching down the cellular and biochemical levels. The so-called “molecular imaging” aims at the in-vivo identification of organic ones and cellular malfunction already before the first anatomical changes occur [17, 18, 36,37]. With this one hopes for next new knowledge about pathological relationships also the optimisation of therapeutic strategies and early assessment about the success or failure of therapies. Especially the eye with its unique optical properties and easy access to deep anatomical structures represents a promising organ for in vivo visualisation of molecular processes inside the body.
